Amref Health Africa is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Database Assistant to support USAID-funded Integrated Youth Activity (Kefeta) project that aims to empower youth to advance their own economic, civic and social development across 18 major urban cities of Ethiopia. Under the direction of Kefeta’s Information Management System Manager, the Database Assistant will be responsible for maintaining and supporting Kefeta’s DHIS2-based database systems, ensuring data integrity, and assisting with various database-related tasks. In addition, the Database Assistant will also support other LME and Knowledge Management team in field-level technical assistance, data capturing, learning, monitoring and evaluation activities.

Job Position – Database Assistant
Required Qualification and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
Experience: 4+ years of experience in a database administrative or support role
Strong working knowledge of database management systems, such as DHIS2, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server
Proficiency in SQL and ability to write queries
Experience with database backup, restoration, and optimization techniques
Practical experience on DHIS2 Administration.
Familiarity with data modeling and schema design principles
Knowledge of Data Visualization Tools
Experience with database monitoring and performance tuning tools
Knowledge on MEL Frameworks and Concepts
Willingness to support site-level team on database and M&E related issues
Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy, accountability
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, and
Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical team.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform regular database backups, maintenance, and optimization to maintain system performance and data integrity.
Assist with the design, implementation, and testing of new database schemas and structures
Monitor database performance, identify and resolve any issues or bottlenecks
Develop and maintain database documentation, including data dictionaries, schema diagrams, and user guides
Provide support and training to end-users on database usage, querying, and reporting
Collaborate with the MEL, IT and Program teams to implement new database-driven applications or features and DHIS2 related supports.
Support and troubleshoot Database and DHIS2 Related Issues
Assist with the creation and execution of data import and export processes
Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues in a timely manner
Ensure compliance with data security and privacy policies
Assist other MEL team and program staff in performance improvement and quality assurance activities across target cities;
Work with other MEL team at country office level to improve knowledge management and learning activities;
Support the MEL team to ensure that Amref’s Information Management System (AIMS) is regularly updated with respect to Kefeta’s contributions; and
Assist the MEL team in producing a monthly statistical bulletin and other regular reports.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with cloud-based database platforms (e.g., Amazon RDS, Google Cloud SQL)
Knowledge of data warehousing and business intelligence concepts
Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and database migration tools
