Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief (CPAR) has been working in Ethiopia since 1984. Its initial intervention was predominantly focused on famine relief through the provision of emergency health service assistance to people affected by famine. CPAR’s major humanitarian and emergency interventions were a supply of skilled personnel, medical supplies and materials for emergency, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), and health services.
CPAR is now implementing a project entitled Commemorating Victims of Flit No 302 Empowering Disadvantaged High School Students in Addis Ababa “This project is funded by Ministry of Transport Canada (MTC). CPAR is implementing the project in collaboration with various universities and local partners.

Job Position – Accountant
Required Qualification and Experience
Education:BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field of study.
Proven experience as an accountant.
Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures.
Awareness of NGO’s trends.
Familiarity with financial accounting statements.
Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end closing process.
Hands-on experience with accounting software such as Online QuickBooks or other accounting packages.
ISRF Certificate.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.
Languages – Fluent writing and spoken English.

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Accountant to manage our general accounting operations by controlling and verifying our financial transactions. The successful candidate will possess excellent analytical skills and a thorough understanding of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. The ideal candidate will also have experience in collaborating with and/or managing a team within the Administration and Program departments. The Accountant’s responsibilities include ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all accounting tasks.
Responsibilities:
Prepare journal vouchers, coding, and recommend modifications to accounting systems all documents according to the CPAR Chart of Accounts.
Prepare, allocate, post, and reconcile accounts payable and receivable.
Prepare on monthly based reconcile bank statements with Financial General Leger book balances for proper cash monitoring.
Prepare monthly “Request for Cash Transfer” and ensure timely replenishment of petty cash, daily bank deposits of all collected cash.
Maintain accurate books of accounts, ensuring receipts and financial documents are properly safeguarded.
Prepare and supervise financial analyses related to advances, sub-grants, payables, and donor contracts.
Ensure timely handling of monthly Staff payroll, bills, including medical and insurance payments.
Monitor and maintain fixed asset inventory counts periodically and annually at field and AA offices.
Ensure timely government and other settlements, including Staff IM, taxation, withholdings, PF, and other accrued benefits.
Develop and document business processes and accounting guidelines to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
Implement cost-effective mechanisms for FO operations. Supervise and provide technical support for cashiers/storekeepers at field and AA office levels.
Contribute to organizational goal-setting processes and provide technical support for program staff.
Prepare financial statements and Participate for Annual budget preparation budgets according to schedule.
Prepare monthly or Quarterly financial reports, and including staff indemnity, asset depreciation, and expense accounts
Facilitate month-end and year-end closing processes.
Analyze financial information and summarize financial status.
Identify errors and suggest improvements for efficiency and spending.
Provide technical support and advice to the Administration and Finance Manager.
Perform any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
