Medicins Sans Frontiers(MSF) is looking for two Humanitarian Affairs Officers (HAO) to contribute to the development of humanitarian affairs activities in the Mission by supporting the Management Coordination Team in the analysis of the socio-political context, humanitarian response, and security. The Officers will support the development and implementation of MSF advocacy strategies, according to MSF policies and values, in order to improve the condition of humanitarian aid and human rights for the population.

One Humanitarian Affairs Officer will be supporting MSF projects in northern Ethiopia (Amhara and Tigray). This position will be based in Shire, Tigray region, with frequent travel to Gondar in Amhara. The second Humanitarian Affairs Officer will be supporting MSF projects in Southern Ethiopia (Gambella and Somali), and will be based in Kule, Gambella region with travel to Jigiga, Somali region.

The HAO role requires sensitivity and flexibility as there may be changes in this set-up, depending on project needs.

Job Position – Humanitarian Affairs Officer

Required Qualification and Experience
Education: Essential degree in Law, Humanitarian affairs, Political Sciences or related university degree.
Humanitarian negotiation (&/or protection) training
Experience; Essential previous working experience of at least two years in research, analysis and advocacy.
Essential experience with MSF or other NGOs.
Desirable working experience in developing countries.
Post-war and displacement settings
Sexual violence and protection settings
Humanitarian affairs and emergencies settings
Languages
Mission language (English) essential. Local language
HAO 1: Amharic and Tigrinya is a must
HAO 2: Nuer, Anyuak, and Somali is an asset but not essential
Knowledge
Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
Good knowledge of humanitarian and protection actors’ landscape
Proven ability in data management and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Number of Position: Two
Place of work: Shire and Gambella (Kule)
Terms of employment: 1 year with a possibility of extension
Remuneration and Benefits:
Starting gross salary/month: ETB 63,000
Medical Coverage : as per organizational health policy
Hardship allowance: 30% of Basic salary for only Kule project
